Insuleur will take part next October in Brussels in the debate on how EU policies affect islands

Insuleur will participate next October at the Open Day organized in Brussels to review how EU policies affect the European islands and what can be done for them to have equal opportunities as continental regions.

The representation of INSULEUR shall be borne by the current President of the organization, Joan Gual Torrella, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Mallorca, who as well as the other participants will make a brief presentation and participate in the subsequent debate.

Islands face common challenges and handicaps which place them in disadvantage. Articles 170, 174 and 175 of the Treaty of Lisbon recognize the particularities of insular territories, and the need to attend their specific needs.

The object of the debate is to discuss on how the different EU policies affect islands, and what can be done in order to overcome the challenges so their citizens and undertakings can have equal opportunities as in continental regions. Special attention will be paid to the new regulation of cohesion policy in particular regarding territorial cohesion.
