INSULEUR participated in the European debate on cohesion policy

INSULEUR, the Network of Insular Chambers of the European Union, which represents more than 40 Chambers from seven EU countries, is satisfied by the intention showed by the European Commission in his 5th Cohesion Report to introduce the territorial dimension of cohesion policy in its new programs.

In this text, the Commission seems determined to implement Article 174, which recognizes the particular difficulties faced by some territories (including the island regions) because of their particular physical and geographical characteristics, so it acknowledges necessary to take into account this situation and include initiatives to reduce difficulties some regions may find on their development.

However, INSULEUR regrets that the document doesn't go deeper on islands problems, and considers a must to take into account their particular situation in European policies and especially in cohesion matters.
